—Hearing your voice isn’t so easy anymore, Sizzle.
I’m still talking! And we want more about the cruise!
—Okay. We have a guest post today, from your Uncle Bill in Bristol, RI, seen this past weekend with the Easter Bunny.
Now, here’s Bill remembering the early 1970s:
I grew up in New York City. In my first “real” job, with what was then New York Telephone, I worked on Tenth Avenue in the mid-50s—a short walk from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
One day, a guy I worked with suggested that a few of us skip lunch and head over to where the QEII was in port. To illustrate how drastically things have changed, we were all able to board the ocean liner for 25 cents each while the crew prepared for departure!
Once on the ship, I was free to roam around as I wished. It blew my mind. Many passengers were already on board, dancing to a band in a huge ballroom, drinking in a nightclub, shopping for expensive items in an arcade.
(Debby’s thrift-shop whisper of luxury)
I discovered a large movie theater with a balcony (!). I made my way to a lower deck with a gym and indoor swimming pool. Absolutely incredible.
When it was time to go, I realized I was lost! I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find my way back and I would be arrested as a stowaway. I did find my way, but it was a close call.
After that, I fantasized about going on a QEII cruise, and I even called Cunard to request literature with a map of the ship. I wish I had saved that map. No way could I afford a luxury cruise—I envy you! I think and hope you will have the time of your life.
—Thank you Bill!

You're welcome, Debby! It was worth the wait. Karma (in top photo) looks ready for the solar eclipse. Are you taking your froufrou sleep mask on your cruise?
Great story of days gone by! Enjoy your cruise, Debby! 🛳️😘🙏
